Our 'A' level French is a little rusty but yesterday's L'Equipe headline is still easy enough to decipher.

"Liverpool aime Mario Lemina (Southampton)" is the banner head - "Liverpool loves Mario Lemina" with the accompanying report suggesting that Arsenal - who tracked the Southampton midfielder in the summer - have now dropped their interest in the 24-year-old.

The leading French sports newspaper then goes on to say that Jurgen Klopp is now the front-runner to secure a player he wants to partner alongside the incoming Naby Keita.

Lemina moved from Marseille to Juventus in 2015, where he spent two seasons, helping the Italians win the domestic double each time.

Southampton snapped him up for £15.4m last August.

L'Equipe's interest in a Gabonese midfielder who started his career in France is understandable. Less so is their insight into Jurgen Klopp's transfer strategy.
