Liverpool have informed the representative of Alisson that they are no longer interested in pursuing a £62 million deal for the Roma goalkeeper.

The Anfield side, who have been enthused by Loris Karius’ recent performances in-between the sticks, had identified the Brazil international stopper as a pedigreed candidate to enhance their options with the gloves.

Negotiations were in progress to conclude an agreement over a summer switch, with the Reds quoted the above-mentioned figure to secure the 25-year-old.

The player’s agent, Ze Maria Neis, has been made formally aware of Jurgen Klopp’s decision to stick with and support Karius as he endeavours to be the club’s long-term No.1 after dispossessing Simon Mignolet of that status.

Alisson’s valuation would almost double the British-record fee for a goalkeeper, with his fellow countryman Ederson having cost Manchester City £34.7m in June last year.

The price also eclipses the €52m Juventus parted with to recruit Gianluigi Buffon from Parma in 2001 by €18m.

The idea currently is to provide competition for Karius rather than to curtail the German’s efforts to establish himself in the position as the club target being City’s closest competitions in the top flight this season as well as look to continue advancing in the Champions League.
