Liverpool have made contact over a possible move for Napoli star Faouzi Ghoulam in the January transfer window, according to reports in France.

Ghoulam, 26, has been a mainstay in Napoli’s starting XI since joining the Serie A outfit back in 2014 but the Algeria international is being heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in the new year.

Both Chelsea and Manchester City are keen on Ghoulam but Liverpool are understood to be expressing the strongest interest in the left-back.

French outlet L’Equipe suggest the Merseyside club have made an approach over the availability of the highly-rated defender.

However, it’s claimed Napoli immediately knocked back the approach and are determined to keep hold of Ghoulam for the remainder of the season.

The Algerian’s contract at Napoli expires at the end of the 2017-18 campaign and talks over a new deal have stalled in recent weeks.

It’s believed Ghoulam is open to the idea of a move to England.
