Manchester United and Liverpool have both held initial talks with Monaco over the signing of French midfielder Tiemoué Bakayoko, according to reports.

The 22-year-old is in-demand this summer and a move to the Premier League looks likely after he ruled out a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea plan to sit down with the French giants this week to discuss a deal but both United and Liverpool have beaten the Blues to talks, according to the Daily Mail.

Antonio Conte’s men would appear to have the upperhand given their Premier League champions status but the Blues are unlikely to be able to match the wages on offer at Old Trafford, while Bakayoko has a greater guarantee of game time at Anfield.

Monaco value Bakayoko at £50million and the club’s president admitted earlier this week that he will not stand in the way of any player that wants to leave this summer.

Manchester United’s chances of signing the France international could rest on Wednesday’s Europa League final against Ajax, while Liverpool still need to overcome a play-off to reach the Champions League group stages.
