Klavan: Two from six is frustrating for us, but we have to look forward
Ragnar Klavan has explained why Liverpool cannot afford to dwell on the disappointment of a second consecutive home draw and instead must already start looking ahead to the fixtures still to come in the festive period.
The Reds were left frustrated as West Bromwich Albion ground out a point with a goalless tie on Wednesday night – the second stalemate in four days at Anfield following the sharing of the points in Sunday’s Merseyside derby with Everton.
However, with a game away to Bournemouth to come on Sunday followed by a trip to Arsenal just five days later, Klavan insists Liverpool must shake off their dissatisfaction at the last two results and quickly.
He told Liverpoolfc.com: “You feel like you lost the points again, like in the last game, but it’s football and you have to keep on going. The next game is already on Sunday and that’s good for us.
“The result could be because the opponent played well or they had a little bit of luck, but as I said, it’s football – there’s going to be better days and sometimes not-so-good days.”
Liverpool had over 70 per cent of the possession against the Baggies and created 14 chances to their opponent’s six.
Klavan feels the Reds should take it as a sign of their progression that teams are seemingly happy to come to Anfield and play for a point.
“For us, this is a big compliment if they come only for a draw here and it’s all they want,” he said.
“It shows us that we are on the right path, playing good and are always dangerous. But like always, you have to succeed in your performance when you have these 'little bit lesser' days.”
Liverpool thought they’d forced a late breakthrough to overcome West Brom when substitute Dominic Solanke bundled the ball home from close range on 82 minutes.
However, the celebrations were cut short when the officials deemed the Reds’ forward had converted via his hand.
Asked whether Jürgen Klopp’s side were lacking a little bit of luck at the moment, Klavan said: “Yes and no; with luck you need to work it for yourself – that’s important.
“In the last two games, we’ve lost four points and that’s a pity. But we have to keep on going, we are playing good, creating chances and the goals will come.
“As I said, the next game is already around the corner and we have to focus on that. We will take what was good from this game and try to improve what was not so good and keep on going.”
