Jordan Henderson has urged Liverpool to bounce back quickly after a ‘very disappointing’ defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Reds were beaten 4-1 at Wembley on Sunday as a double from Harry Kane and strikes from Son Heung-min and Dele Alli rendered Mohamed Salah’s ninth goal of the season - which made it 2-1 midway through the first half - a mere consolation.

A poor start from the visitors enabled Spurs to take a two-goal lead inside the opening 12 minutes, but while Henderson was left frustrated by their display, he believes Liverpool will learn from - and react positively to - a chastening afternoon in the capital.

“I think we didn’t start well at all, so it’s about being ready for the game - everybody, I know Dejan [Lovren] got took off early in the game but it could’ve been anyone of us that came off because it wasn’t good enough,” the captain told BBC Sport.

“We know there are things to improve and things to change quickly. I’ve got every faith that we can [do that] because we’ve got a fantastic team. But we need to work on a few things and change it quickly.

“I know we’ll do everything we can to change it because that’s the nature of us as a team. We’ve got to keep working hard. I’m sure a lot of criticism will come our way and deservedly so, we can’t keep doing it, we’ve got to change it quickly, otherwise you lose games and you lose them badly like we did today.

“So we need a reaction quickly, we need to bounce back on the training field and in games, but like I say, I believe we can.”

Salah’s goal, which was created by a perfectly-weighted throughball by Henderson, represented a rare highlight for Liverpool on Sunday.

Jürgen Klopp’s team looked the more likely to register again for a spell after the Egypt international had halved the deficit, but Alli rifled in a volley in first-half injury time to restore Tottenham’s two-goal cushion.

Henderson continued: “Obviously when we scored the goal and got back into it I thought the momentum changed a little bit, but then again we concede another sloppy goal to make it 3-1 just before half-time which kills us again, really.

“So it’s a very disappointing day, very frustrating, and it’s only down to ourselves to go and put things right.”
