Kevin Keegan marked his final appearance for Liverpool with a selfless display of running and pressing that helped the club secure its first ever European Cup success.

It was on this day 40 years ago that the No.7 represented the Reds for the final time, in the showpiece meeting with Borussia Monchengladbach at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico.

Tasked with leading the line for Bob Paisley’s side, Keegan turned in a performance brimming with energy and endeavour which was rewarded when he won the penalty that Phil Neal converted to seal a 3-1 result.
