Tributes were paid across Liverpool FC sites and the city at 3.06pm on Saturday afternoon in memory of the 96 fans who lost their lives in the Hillsborough tragedy.

Today marks the 28th anniversary of the disaster which unfolded at the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on April 15, 1989.

At Melwood, training stopped so that players and staff could gather alongside the temporary Hillsborough memorial, moved to the complex at the request of the Hillsborough Family Support Group, for a minute’s silence in tribute to the 96, their families, survivors and all affected by the tragedy, while similar respects were observed in the city.

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp and captain Jordan Henderson had earlier laid a wreath alongside the floral tributes placed beside the Hillsborough memorial at Anfield.
