Liverpool FC has today announced the launch of the club’s first full-time coaching programme in South Korea.

Together with partner LASA Sport Consulting Group, the Reds will now deliver ongoing player development programmes to youngsters across the country.

The youth coaching programme will officially start this month, and will provide unique opportunities for players aged four to 18 to learn to play ‘The Liverpool Way’.

Players will improve their football skills and develop in the technical, tactical, physical and social aspects of the game through age-specific coaching sessions.

Programmes will be delivered initially in the city of Sejong, with plans to expand into Seoul and other major cities across South Korea.

A wide range of programmes are planned, including ongoing player development sessions and soccer schools in the holiday season. Through the unique coaching methods of Liverpool FC, there will also be a focus on improving key life skills of the young participants, such as communication, teamwork, confidence, preparation and organisation.

An LFC coach will relocate to South Korea to head up the project, overseeing the implementation and development of the coaching programme.

Local coaches will also be involved and trained in how to deliver coaching ‘The Liverpool Way’, providing career opportunities as well as helping to develop the game in South Korea.

Ian Rush, LFC ambassador, said: “Having visited Seoul in 2011, I have seen for myself the huge LFC fan base in South Korea so I’m delighted to announce the launch of a full-time coaching programme in this fantastic country.

“Providing young local Reds fans with the opportunity to learn to play ‘The Liverpool Way’ in their own community is unique as players will be introduced to the same coaching philosophies and techniques delivered at our very own Academy in Liverpool. This demonstrates the authenticity of the partnership and something I’m immensely proud to be associated with.”

Jesse Park, the CEO of LASA Sport Consulting Group, said: “Youth football in South Korea is continuously growing and there is a real enthusiasm for the game. The implementation of Liverpool FC’s unique youth development system will enable players in South Korea to learn to play football ‘The Liverpool Way’ in a professional and unique environment.

“The mission of Liverpool FC International Academy South Korea is to be a leader in the development of football in Korea. We will establish an identity of excellence as we pursue our pathway to success on and off the pitch, with our primary focus being the development of players and young people. We will aim to have a positive impact on football development here in South Korea.”
