Liverpool FC and Merseytravel have worked together with local transport operators to provide extended services that will operate later to help supporters get home from the game against Manchester City at Anfield on Saturday December 31.

The Premier League fixture, which was originally scheduled to kick off at 3pm GMT, will now begin at 5.30pm.

Since the announcement of the time change, the club has been working with Merseytravel and local travel providers to extend some of the transport services available on New Year’s Eve to help ease travel concerns for fans.

While some services have been extended across the city, the club would urge fans to check the New Year’s Eve timetables to plan their journey and ensure they’re aware of all the available options. Certain services will still run to a reduced timetable and will finish earlier than usual on New Year’s Eve.

Andrew Parkinson, operations director at Liverpool FC, said: “Due to the revised kick-off time, it was important for us to work closely with Merseytravel and other local travel operators on behalf of our fans to start planning ahead and look to provide an extended range of services to help supporters travel home safely post-match.

“I am pleased that Merseytravel and other local travel operators were able to extend some services and I would like to thank them for their support.

“Ahead of the game we would encourage our fans to plan their journey ahead, allow extra time for travel and check all the latest travel information in advance.”

Councillor Liam Robinson, Merseytravel committee chair, added: “Thanks to Merseytravel, city region transport operators and Liverpool Football Club working collaboratively and a considerable amount of planning, some services will operate later than normal to help passengers get home after this game.

“We will continue to advise all travelling fans to plan their journey, make use of the travel information being made available, don’t forget to check travel and weather information before they set off, and consider their options for getting home.”
